Miami Beach has been one of the most popular beach resorts in the United States for a century. The city is often confused with Miami, despite being a distinct municipality. As of the 2014 census, the city has a population of 91 732 people, of whom 55% were born outside the United States. The South Beach neighborhood, which encompasses the southernmost 6.5 km² of Miami Beach, together with Downtown Miami and the Port of Miami form the commercial center of the Miami metropolitan area.
