Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II fu chiamata prima Piazza Gioacchino Murat e poi nel 1832 Piazza Ferdinando II. Posta lungo Corso Vittorio Emanuele è delimitata dal Palazzo di Giustizia e da Palazzo San Giorgio, sede del comune; al centro della piazza c’è una fontana con zampilli inaugurata il 9 novembre del 1889. Questa piazza è detta dai campobassani anche “Largo della Libera” per via della chiesetta della Madonna della Libera che si trova in un angolo del Palazzo comunale.
