China
The People's Republic of China (中华人民共和国S, Zhōnghuá Rénmín GònghéguóP listen to the pronunciation in Standard Mandarinⓘ), also called China (中国S, ZhōngguóP; lit. "Middle Country"),[7] is a country in East Asia. The People's Republic of China was formerly referred to as the People's China, in order to distinguish it from the Republic of China, its predecessor and from which it inherited almost all of its territory, referred to instead as Nationalist China or, since 1949, Taiwan (or Formosa). Both entities claim control over the entire territory of China. The People's Republic of China, with over 1 billion inhabitants, is the second most populous country in the world, after India.
